” At their roots
we paused, in their shade we rested, in their presence
we grew to know their natures as we grew to know
ourselves. My mother bought a guidebook
to California Trees in a bookstore filled with poetry,
and its words have remained as an echo
long after her own voice had gone.”
Accentuated by Courter’s photography, this book about trees magically becomes about the lessons passed down from mother to son, our relationship to nature, and who we become because of it all.
